Here's the 2 Yamaha FZ1's with the same slipon and K&N air filter tuned on the same dyno the same day by the same operator. Both bikes are running very well and if you did not know the dyno figures (and hadn't ridden them) you would say they are the same.

Yamaha FZ1 x 2. Both bikes have the same slip-on muffler, both have K&N air filters, both have PCV and both tuned on the same dyno, both made similar gains after tuning. What's interesting is that one has about 9hp more than the other.

With a Micron titanium full system, as you can see there's no R1 mid range flat spot with this pipe. Just a flatish curve to 160hp makes the perfect shopping trolley. It's a shame the company folded, it's a lovely exhaust.

This R1 has a Yoshimura TRC slipon can and a K&N air cleaner but the map that came with the PCV was very average. A bit of tweaking, and the dyno chart highlights how much better it is when a custom map is made specifically for the bike.

With a pair of slip-on mufflers and a K&N air filter this bike was not really much better than stock. However, all it needed was a custom map to squeeze those missing ponies out, and we got quite a few. Now that's a nice result.

Big improvement through the mid range: 10hp over stock. The SFM also helps with better throttle response in the transition area from the low injectors to the upper injectors, great for driving hard off corners.

FZ1 fans, want some more power...? Just add a slip-on muffler, a K&N air filter, a Power Commander, and stir.

Ah, that's right, don't forget to take it to your dyno shop for remapping otherwise you'll find - like this guy did after down loading maps - that it's like trying to hit the target blindfolded. That's what the Power Commander allows you to do: tune all the components to your particular bike and not some other hero's completely different configuration half way around the world.
